Pulsetto: Vagal Nerve Stimulator

Esperance Physiotherapy recognises the intersection between ongoing symptoms (e.g., pain, fatigue, brain fog) and poor sleep quality and or quantity. For this reason, our staff have sought out and obtained additional learning in the realm of sleep science and education so we can assist our clients in this unique area. Banner

Deep cycle rest and rapid eye movement sleep gained each night allow the body to recover, recharge, and prepare for the next day’s activities. However, stress (i.e., relationship, work, family, financial), a racing mind, or excess nervous energy at bedtime can all heighten sympathetic nervous system activity (i.e., fight and flight), which results in increased cortisol and adrenaline levels. These are natural chemicals produced by our bodies, but they are not conducive to a restful night of sleep. The vagus nerve is your body's main communication line to the brain. It carries signals that coordinate your stress response (i.e., fight and flight or rest and digest), sleep, heart rate, and gut function. As a consequence of this inappropriate nervous system involvement, and consequent poor sleep, they impair our ability to perform physically and mentally at our optimum the next day.

Achieving a great night of sleep means we need to get all our sleeping sheep in a line. We need to be physically tired, emotionally relaxed, have our sleep environment optimised for sleep, and have our chemical factory producing sleep-supportive chemicals. Screenshot 2026 02 23 at 2.08.43 pm

There is no one answer for all, which is why if you are experiencing non-restorative sleep, we encourage you to come in for a sleep assessment to determine the contributing factors.

Pulsetto: Non-Invasive Vagal Nerve StimulatorCollar.jpg

To help restart a natural sleep experience, we utilise some tools (like sleep supportive supplements). One of these tools is the Pulsetto. It is a non-invasive vagus nerve stimulator that delivers gentle, controlled electrical pulses through the skin on the neck to engage vagal pathways, and it’s becoming a growing focus in human research, especially for measurable effects on stress signals, performance and sleep deprivation.

The Pulsetto collar is linked to an app on your phone, which provides a range of stimulation options to enhance key functions like sleep, pain relief, and relaxation.
